World-renowned pump manufacturer, Weir Warman, has a large manufacturing plant in Sydney, Australia, complete with its own iron foundry. A massive redevelopment programme has been undertaken, incorporating a change from green sand to furane no-bake moulding, and the installation of large, modern induction melting furnaces.
Cti was asked to design a new fettling and grinding line for medium to large castings incorporating top class environmental control and handling facilities. For large, floor-mounted castings, three totally enclosed booths were designed with acoustic walls and a down draught dust exhaust system. Booths for bench-mounted castings were again designed with acoustic walls and ceilings and a combination of down draught and rear exhaust dust extraction system. Each booth was fitted out with a free running hard push, power lift handling system. The booths were painted in a light colour with high class lighting. A range of hard tools was also provided for each operator. The exhaust ductwork was designed with a constant air speed throughout the system with dust collected in a pulse jet bag filter. An acoustic altenuator was fitted to the exhaust of the fan to minimise noise.
