Non-Destructive Testing
The NDT department has one of the few independent high energy x-ray machines in the UK, which can penetrate up to 250mm in steel. The 2.5 MEV Van de Graaff x-ray unit is housed in a hall 15m x 9m (50’ x 30’) with a lifting capacity of up to 4 tonnes. In addition to static film, ‘real-time’ radiography of real components being poured in sand and investment moulds has also been conducted.

Some of these services can be carried out on-site with sub-contract work being undertaken. The facilities are available for use during the development and routine examination of components, in the course of defect investigations and as part of the continuing process of improvement for casting producers and users.
All personnel hold one or more of the following qualifications ANST, PCN, MOD/AQD, Rolls Royce and City and Guilds for Castings and Welds in Dense metal or Light Alloy
