Sources of Funding

Cti’s main business focus is on research in to and development of casting processes and related technologies.  The results of this work are available to Member companies.  There are four main types of research carried out at Cti, each with different methods of funding.

Contract research is performed for individual companies worldwide on a confidential and independent basis.  The area of research is defined by the client, and usually aims to meet their specific needs or provide solutions to their problems.  These may be short or long term projects, which allow companies to develop existing products and processes, introduce innovative ones or expolit alternative methods of production

Group sponsored research projects tend to be larger programmes funded by a group of companies, with the aim of achieving a common aim, and to address issues of mutual interest.  By entering into a Group Sponsor agreement, each partner benefits by getting the results from a significantly wider work package than would be possible from single sponsor work.  The results of this work are issued to the sponsor group only, unless otherwise agreed by the entire sponsor group.

General R&D work is carried out for the Membership as a whole and addresswa the issues considered to be of concern to the foundry industry.  These projects are funded by Members' annual subscriptions, and are overseen by the Research Committee, which is made up of representatives from Member organisations.  The results of these research projects are released to the Members.

Agency funded projects are funded by organisations such as the European Union, the Government, and regional development authorities.  These projects tend to be used for the development of Cti’s research areas to promote dissemination and adoption of new technologies and industrial practices.

Cti’s research projects can be accessed by Member companies, whether they are in need of immediate benefits, or are seeking long term improvements to their operations.
