Casting Processes & Prototyping Techniques

This NEW and extended course delivers fundamental knowledge of the principles of casting and provides an overview of most casting processes available from basic sand casting, die casting to investment casting (including the ‘Lost foam’ and ‘Replicast’® processes).
It also looks at the development of creating casting prototypes, not just using SLA techniques but also covers alternative ways such as “Patternless”® process and foam machining.

It is designed to have a wide appeal, and caters for everyone wishing to understand the casting processes.
No previous knowledge of the sector is necessary.
Those attending may be shopfloor, technical or management personnel, including

 
  • Employees who would like to know about castings.
  • Buyers (purchasing) or other ancillary staff that are not directly linked to the manufacturing process.
  • Mechanical, design, quality or production engineers.
  • Modern Apprentices.

8.30am: Arrival, Coffee & introduction

9.00am: Session 1: Sand Casting Processes

Systematic review of sand casting processes. - Conventional Sand casting, Pattern production, Sand moulding, Green sand binders, Chemically Bonded sand binders, & Resin Shell.

10.45am: Session 2: Die Casting

Looks at the theory of die-casting and focuses on the following topics - Gravity Die Casting, Low pressure and High Pressure.

11.30am: Session 3: Investment Casting

Looks at the advances in the Investment process.  Topics include - Ceramic shell, lost wax process, lost foam and 'Replicast' ® & Shaw process

12.30 pm: Lunch

1. 00pm: Session 4: Prototype Development

Looks at the theory of die casting and focuses on the following topics - Gravity Die Casting, Low pressure and High Pressure Die Casting.

2.45pm: Session 5: Rapid Prototyping Techniques

provides an overview of modern rapid prototyping methods and compares the usefulness each process for the creation

4.30pm: End og program

opportunity for professional discussions (optional)
