Brian has joined Castings Technology following the MBO. Brian has extensive experience in the control of the manufacture of aerospace materials and components.
He led the Rolls-Royce External Materials Laboratory responsible for the control of melted and forged products in this role leading the team of surveillance metallurgists and material specialists.
In the last 20 years he has led the development of several industry-changing manufacturing/materials technologies; including novel single crystal casting processes, ceramic core manufacture, new welding techniques and new process modelling capabilities.
He is also an experienced chair of manufacturing technology readiness reviews for complex materials-based developments including high temperature turbine materials, composite fan systems, ceramic matrix composites, additive manufacturing and REACH compliant chemical processes.
Many of these projects involved working with RTOs and he has built strong relationships with many universities and research centres.
For several years he was a member of research advisory committees at TWI, the TWI Council and also until recently chaired the programme board at the Advanced Forming Research Centre AFRC.
